Abrah Sprung, PhD, PMH-C

LICENSED CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Are you weary of holding out hope that the future will be different, when it doesn’t really seem that way from where you stand?

Maybe you’ve become your very own self-saboteur - constantly criticizing, questioning, and holding yourself back, or overextending yourself while tucking your own needs out of sight. You’ve got a sense that life could be lived with more satisfaction, more confidence, more calm, more stability, and better relationships, and you’re thinking it’s time for change...

Welcome to a space for you.

Am I the right therapist for you?

  • I’ve dedicated my professional career to understanding trauma, anxiety, attachment, self-esteem, and how to help people move past where they get stuck in their inner dialogue and coping strategies that don’t work.

My training as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over two decades of experience working with adults of all backgrounds means I have the expertise you need and deserve when it comes to processing your trauma, anxieties, insecurities, and relationship concerns.

As an EMDRIA-certified EMDR therapist, I have extensive training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy and have passed rigorous expertise standards checks. I am enthusiastic and passionate about sharing EMDR with my clients - and thoroughly enjoy witnessing the life-changing transformations that it brings about.

I've trained extensively and developed expertise in using advanced methods to fine-tune EMDR therapy to the unique individual needs of my clients, which is essential to maximize its effectiveness in achieving deep and lasting healing. Depending on your needs and what fits for your story, I will weave in particular approaches, including somatic work to target nervous system regulation and support the mind-body connection, parts work to address relationship trauma, a difficult childhood, or how you feel about yourself (like self-esteem and authenticity issues) to heal and integrate different facets of the self, deep and direct targeting of issues arising from harmful life lessons that may have been imprinted in you about how you should or shouldn't be or act, and specific strategies to address particular presentations, such as trauma that is very recent, symptoms of depression, and more.

As a certified perinatal mental health specialist, I offer expertise and deep compassion to support you through the unique challenges of perinatal mental health, and perinatal trauma in particular. My approach focuses on providing a safe and welcoming space where can address the root of your concerns to help you heal, regain a sense of control and renew your spirit.

  • Our professional relationship is of utmost importance to me. I will always make space for your questions and feedback so that I can help you as much as possible. Even if that means you disagree with me and want or need something different than what I might suggest.

This also means I won’t keep things cold and clinical. I highly value being both professional and relational in my work, meaning I’ll share things I’ve learned in my life experiences, such as how I really do understand that so many things are much easier said than done, and that just because something hard or terrible that’s happened might be over and behind you, it doesn’t mean you will automatically move on to feeling relieved and grateful.

I find so many times that the people I work with are comforted and reassured by learning that not only are they not alone in their struggles, but that a therapist has also struggled and found a way to move forward and live life with her hands on the wheel - rather than with anxiety and trauma as the driver.

If one of your personal goals is to become more compassionate and human with yourself and in your relationships, you’ll find a living, breathing, working model of that here.

  • My early exposure to the power of EMDR was with its ability to finally and fully heal survivors of 9/11 who came to work with me still suffering lingering symptoms of trauma years later despite the passage of time, good support, and plenty of other types of mostly traditional talk therapy. It’s what hooked me, and led me to pursue expertise and advanced training and ultimately certification status as an EMDR therapist.

Ultimately, there is of course no substitute for the value of lived experience. As a survivor of trauma myself, I can also very personally attest to the strength of EMDR to truly deeply heal emotional distress, especially when blended with particular treatment modalities that extend and enhance its reach and application: Brainspotting, IFS (Internal Family Systems) or “parts work”, and Somatic therapies.

I'm also a dedicated learner, committed to continually expanding my knowledge of the latest advances in the field so I can bring them into my work with my clients.

Other things to know about me: my family means the world to me, I love to sing, and I am a big fan of Pilates.

How is therapy with me different?

Does this sound familiar? Many current approaches for addressing trauma, anxiety, self-esteem, and difficulty connecting use a non-specific or overly narrowed perspective, resulting in many ending up feeling that:

  • although they’ve gained insight into their concerns, they don’t know where to go from there.

  • although they have acquired some skills to navigate distress, it feels like a superficial fix, and they don’t feel healed at the source of the issue.

  • although they know things to be true or make sense cognitively, they don’t really feel it in any deep down, unshakeable way.

  • although things are improved, they haven’t made the real progress they’ve been hoping for.

Our work together will be tailored to you.

We’ll begin by honing in on what your concerns are, and review your personal history and relational dynamics that have contributed to your current difficulty managing your emotions, any struggle with communicating what your needs and your boundaries are, and any other problems with feeling satisfied in your life. We’ll explore and install tools that help you feel better when you’re under stress, facing a difficult memory, or having a really tough day. This will help you navigate in life, and also equip you to handle the emotional challenge of really delving into the tough stuff. We’ll then choose where to set our sights to thoroughly and deeply process your trauma, difficult or invalidating past experience, loss, current struggles, and/or concerns you have about your life in the future. We’ll go way down below the surface to address the issues wholly and at their root. Our north star will be real healing, real growth, and real change. With each step forward together, you’ll be better equipped to cope with anxiety and other distressing emotions, to recover and move forward from trauma, difficult circumstances, or loss, to feel good within your relationships, and to be more at ease and confident that you can handle whatever comes your way.
